For the past few days I've been in Crimea. I came for the jazz festival and stayed to visit friends. Before this leg of my travels, my host mom in Obuhov had contacted her niece who lives in Feodosia, Crimea, which is a short car ride from Koktebel. There I visited Alla and her family.
On Monday I went to the beach with Alla's husband Sergei who is a Lieutenant-Sargent or something in the military. He works in air defense and has been in the military for as long as I've been alive, meaning that for the first five years of my life we were enemies. There we were laying on the beach and looking over the clear blue sea, alternating between swimming and tanning. I got a nice tan. Sergei turned a tomato red and Alla would later laugh at him.
The next day I offered to cook for them. I figured they'd never had real hamburgers before so I made them. I also made a spaghetti carbonara and some garlic bread. They won't need to be cooking for the next few days. I'm always for cross-cultural sharing.
On the boardwalk at Koktebel I ran into another Peace Corps Volunteer. Joohee invited me to come visit her at her site. She is a Korean mom and that meant that I was going to get a small taste of home. She'd been to my site before for a small project of mine and so I thought it appropriate to pay a visit since I was so close by.
I came to Crimea for the jazz festival. I keep running into people to visit. I wonder if I will ever make it back...
